It is known from a skeleton found in Upper Miocene rocks of Penghu Island, off Taiwan. It appears to be related to two other fossil Asian tomistomines: Maomingosuchus petrolica of southeastern China and Toyotamaphimeia machikanensis of Japan. The taxon was described in 2009 by Shan and colleagues; the type species is P. pani.[1] References1. ^{{cite journal |author=Shan, Hsi-yin |author2=Wu, Xiao-chun |author3=Cheng, Yen-nien |author4= Sato, Tamaki |year=2009 |title=A new tomistomine (Crocodylia) from the Miocene of Taiwan |journal=Canadian Journal of Earth Sciences |volume=46 |issue=7 |pages=529–555 |doi=10.1139/E09-036}} {{Portal|Paleontology}}{{Extinct Crocodilia|T.}}{{Taxonbar|from=Q12780125}}{{paleo-archosaur-stub}} 4 : Gavialidae|Miocene crocodylomorphs|Miocene reptiles of Asia|Prehistoric reptile genera |
