Perry is located at {{coord|45.348|-118.167|type:city_region:US-OR_elevation:883|display=inline,title}} and has an elevation of 2987 feet (883 meters).[3] Perry came into existence in 1890, when the Smith-Stanley Lumber Company built a sawmill in the area.[2] A post office was established in the same year.[2] The mill was sold to Charley and Jim Mimnaugh and again in 1900 to C.W.
