He played college football at the University of Oklahoma from 1946 to 1948 and professionally in the All-America Football Conference (AAFC) with the Baltimore Colts in 1949. Tillman served as the head football coach at the Municipal University of Wichita—now Wichita State University—from 1955 to 1956, compiling a record of 11–8–1.[1][2] Tillman's team won a share of the Missouri Valley Conference championship in 1955 with a record of 7–2–1.[3] Tillman served briefly as an assistant coach at the University of Washington in the spring of 1957. He resigned in April to go into private business in Wichita, Kansas.[4] Head coaching record{{CFB Yearly Record Start | type = coach | team = | conf = | bowl = | poll = no }}{{CFB Yearly Record Subhead| name = Wichita Shockers | conf = Missouri Valley Conference | startyear = 1955 | endyear = 1956 }}{{CFB Yearly Record Entry | championship = conference | year = 1955 | name = Wichita | overall = 7–2–1 | conference = 3–1 | confstanding = T–1st | bowlname = | bowloutcome = | bcsbowl = | ranking = no | ranking2 = no }}{{CFB Yearly Record Entry | championship = | year = 1956 | name = Wichita | overall = 4–6 | conference = 1–3 | confstanding = 4th | bowlname = | bowloutcome = | bcsbowl = | ranking = no | ranking2 = no }}{{CFB Yearly Record Subtotal | name = Wichita | overall = 11–8–1 | confrecord = 4–4 }}{{CFB Yearly Record End | overall = 11–8–1 | bowls = no | poll = no | polltype = }} References1. ^[https://books.google.ca/books?id=NuouAAAAIAAJ&q=%22Alonzo+%22Pete%22+Tillman+was+a+star+tackle+on+Oklahoma's+teams+after+serving+in+the+Air+*****%22&dq=%22Alonzo+%22Pete%22+Tillman+was+a+star+tackle+on+Oklahoma's+teams+after+serving+in+the+Air+*****%22&hl=en&sa=X&ei=kyBNUY_jHufriQKq8YHQAQ&ved=0CC4Q6AEwAA] {{Wichita State Shockers football coach navbox}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Tillman, Pete}}{{1950s-collegefootball-coach-stub}}2. ^[https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/T/TillPe20.htm] 3. ^College Football Data Warehouse Wichita State University 1955 results 4. ^{{cite news |title=Tillman Quits as Huskie Grid Aid |url=https://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1368&dat=19570403&id=quEpAAAAIBAJ&sjid=ow8EAAAAIBAJ&pg=6503,3635671 |newspaper=The Milwaukee Sentinel |location= |agency=Associated Press |date=April 3, 1957 |accessdate=September 28, 2014 }} 8 : 1922 births|1998 deaths|American football centers|Baltimore Colts (1947–50) players|Oklahoma Sooners football players|Washington Huskies football coaches|Wichita State Shockers football coaches|People from Mangum, Oklahoma |
