The final group of Volga German immigrants arrived from the community of Kamenka in June 1878. In 1884, the settlement moved to its current location.[3] A post office opened in Pfeifer in 1887.[4]Beginning in 1879, local residents constructed a series of church buildings that culminated in the completion of Holy Cross Church in May 1918.[3] GeographyPfeifer is located at {{coord|38|42|29|N|99|09|56|W|type:city}} (38.7080679, -99.1656536) at an elevation of 1,873 feet (571 m).[1] It is approximately {{convert|8|mi|km}} east of U.S. Highway 183, {{convert|11.5|mi|km}} south of Interstate 70, and {{convert|15|mi|km}} southeast of Hays, the county seat.[2] Pfeifer lies on the south side of the Smoky Hill River in the Smoky Hills region of the Great Plains.[5] TransportationSaratov Street, a paved county road, runs north-south through Pfeifer.
