It is native to the southeastern United States.[1] One subspecies of this plant, ssp. texensis, the Texas trailing phlox or Texan phlox, is a rare plant federally listed as an endangered species of the United States.[2] It is endemic to Texas, where there are fewer than 20 populations in three counties.[3] At one time it was thought to be extinct. It was rediscovered in 1972.[2] References{{commons category|Phlox nivalis}}1. ^{{GRIN | accessdate = 25 January 2018}} 2. ^1 Phlox nivalis.
