The Pitcairn PA-3 Orowing is an early Pitcairn biplane designed for light commercial use in the early 1920s when aircraft production rates did not meet demand for airmail, training, and passenger aircraft.[2] DevelopmentThe Orowing was the first production aircraft from Pitcairn. Pitcarin purchased surplus Curtiss Oriole wings and mated them to production fuselages. The name "Orowing" is a mix of the PA-2 "Sesquiwing" and the Curtiss "Oriole". The initial production run also was powered by 250 surplus Curtiss OX-5 engines.[3] DesignThe three place Biplane was made of welded steel tube fuselage with an OX-5 engine. The aircraft featured dual controls for flight instruction. The wings were purchased from Curtiss and were the same design as a Curtiss Oriole.[4][5] Operational historyMost Orrowing production was sold to Pitcairn Aviation for flight training and charters. A Orowing flew in the 1926 Ford National Reliability Air Tour.[6] Specifications (Pitcairn PA-3 Orowing){{Aircraft specs |ref=The Pitcairn Aerowing[7] |prime units?=kts |genhide= |crew=1 |capacity=2 passengers |length m= |length ft=26 |length in=2 |length note= |span m= |span ft=36 |span in=0 |span note= |height ft=2 |height in=2+1/2 |height note= |wing area sqm= |wing area sqft=338.37 |wing area note= |swept area sqm= |swept area sqft= |swept area note= |volume m3= |volume ft3= |volume note= |aspect ratio= |airfoil=RAF 15 modified |empty weight kg= |empty weight lb=1345 |empty weight note= |gross weight kg= |gross weight lb=2100 |gross weight note= |max takeoff weight kg= |max takeoff weight lb= |max takeoff weight note= |fuel capacity={{convert|30|USgal|impgal L|abbr=on}} |lift kg= |lift lb= |lift note= |more general=
