PreparationSeveral syntheses of platinum(II) acetate have been reported. For example, G. Wilkinson et al. reported a synthesis which involved dissolving sodium hexahydroxyplatinate in nitric acid, heating with acetic acid, and removing excess nitric acid by reduction with formic acid. However, Wilkinson's group reported great variability in the results of this synthesis.[2] In a more recent synthesis by M. Basato et al., silver acetate was reacted with platinum(II) chloride. Silver(I) is used as a halide-abstraction reagent.
