For years in which a United States presidential election was held, the table indicates which party's nominees received the state's electoral votes, and whether they {{Aye}} won the election or {{Nay}} lost the election.
Each time an official is elected or re-elected, a new box for that official is included to indicate their repeated political party strength.
The parties are as follows: {{legend2|#D99FE8|American|border=1px solid #AAAAAA}} (A) (More commonly known as the Know Nothing Party), {{legend2|#CCFF66|Anti-Administration|border=1px solid #AAAAAA}} (AA), {{legend2|#CC0000|American Labor|border=1px solid #AAAAAA}} (AL) {{legend2|#FF6633|Conservative|border=1px solid #AAAAAA}} (C), {{legend2|#CCEEFF|Constitutional Union|border=1px solid #AAAAAA}} (CU), {{legend2|#CCEEFF|Democratic|border=1px solid #AAAAAA}} (D), {{legend2|#AACC99|Democratic-Republican|border=1px solid #AAAAAA}} (DR), {{legend2|#e6e6aa|Federalist|border=1px solid #aaaaaa}} (F), {{legend2|#FFA500|Independence|border=1px solid #aaaaaa}} (I), {{legend2|#FFE8E8|Jacksonian Democratic|border=1px solid #AAAAAA}} (JD), {{legend2|#FFFFFF|no party|border=1px solid #AAAAAA}} (N), {{legend2|#FFE6B0|National Republican|border=1px solid #AAAAAA}} (NR), {{legend2|#FFBBFF|National Union|border=1px solid #AAAAAA}} (NU), {{legend2|#AACC99|People's Party|border=1px solid #AAAAAA}} (P), {{legend2|#00CC22|Pro-Administration|border=1px solid #AAAAAA}} (PA), {{legend2|#FFB6B6|Republican|border=1px solid #AAAAAA}} (R), {{legend2|#FFFFCC|Whig|border=1px solid #AAAAAA}} (W), {{legend2|#CC6699|Working Families|border=1px solid #AAAAAA}} (WF), and {{legend2|#D8BFD8|a tie or coalition within a group of elected officials|border=1px solid #AAAAAA}}.
