Prior to 1945 it was in Germany; it previously belonged to Prussia and earlier to the Austrian Empire. It is the site of the Battle of Leuthen, where Frederick the Great of Prussia inflicted a heavy defeat on the Austrians in 1757. It lies approximately {{convert|5|km|mi|0}} south-east of Miękinia, {{convert|16|km|mi|0|abbr=on}} east of Środa Śląska, and {{convert|17|km|mi|0|abbr=on}} west of the regional capital Wrocław.
