词条 | Polygamy in Indonesia |
释义 |
A Muslim man may take up to four wives. As allowed by Islam, a man may take more than one wive as long as he treats them equally and can financially support them all. Despite such religious legality, polygamy has faced some of the most intense opposition than any other nation with the majority consisting of Muslims. Recent restrictions have brought about harsher penalties for unlawfully contracted polygamous unions and polygamy is said to be on the decline. Indonesian military personnel are only permitted to practice polygamy if their religion allows it.[1] Additionally, he must prove to the government that his first wife is unable to carry out her duties as a wife.[2] Polygamy under Balinese Hinduism is sanctioned and unrestricted, but the marriage is regulated by adat (traditional customs).[1] Although polygamous marriages are practiced in Bali, the nature of Hindu polygamy has not been included in the national marriage law debates.[3] The native inhabitants of West Papua and Papua have been practicing polygamy long before the arrival of Christian missionaries.[2][4] The Papuans who choose to still practice polygamous marriages after being Christians usually conduct the adat marriages instead of the church one.[5] On a separate note, a study found that polygamous politicians are overwhelmingly less likely to gain female votes than monogamous politicians.[6] Complete ban on polygamyIn late April 2008, a rally of Indonesian women led a protest against the nation's laws allowing for polygamy and polygamous marriages; urging the government to enact a complete ban over such marriages. Male Indonesian politicians were found to be largely opposed, and such a ban has yet to take place.[7] References1. ^{{cite web |url=http://www.thejakartapost.com/news/2015/08/07/defense-ministry-permits-polygamy.html |title=Defense Ministry permits polygamy |first=The Jakarta |last=Post}} 2. ^{{cite web |url=http://genderindex.org/country/indonesia |title=Gender Equality in Indonesia — Social Institutions and Gender Index (SIGI)}} 3. ^1 2 {{cite book| title = The Women's Movement in Postcolonial Indonesia: Gender and Nation in a New Democracy| first = Elizabeth | last = Martyn| url = https://books.google.co.id/books?id=CQh_AgAAQBAJ&pg=PA263&dq=balinese+polygamy&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwin4YHAh7HXAhWBgbwKHYNKCaQQuwUILzAB#v=onepage&q=balinese%20polygamy&f=false| page = 178, 184| publisher = Routledge | year = 2004| isbn = 9781134394708}} 4. ^1 {{cite book| title = Indonesian New Guinea Adventure Guide: West Papua / Irian Jaya| first = David | last = Pickell| url = https://books.google.co.id/books?id=9prTAgAAQBAJ&pg=PT56&dq=west+papuan+polygamy&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjYpszYj7HXAhXEabwKHdihB9EQuwUISTAG#v=onepage&q=west%20papuan%20polygamy&f=false| publisher = Tuttle Publishing | year = 2013| isbn = 9781462909254}} 5. ^1 2 {{cite book| title = Restoring the Balance: Performing Healing in West Papua| first = Ien | last = Courtens| url = https://books.google.co.id/books?id=qUJlAAAAQBAJ&pg=PA217&dq=west+papuan+polygamy&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiY7tO6kLHXAhUHybwKHUI6Cso4ChC7BQg3MAM#v=onepage&q=west%20papuan%20polygamy&f=false| page = 217| publisher = BRILL | year = 2008| isbn = 9789004253902}} 6. ^{{cite web |url=http://in.reuters.com/article/2009/04/01/us-indonesia-polygamy-idINTRE53030G20090401 |title=Polygamous Indonesia politicians may lose female votes}} 7. ^{{cite web |url=http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2008/04/23/2225118.htm |title=Indonesian women lobby for polygamy ban |date=23 April 2008}} External links
