It is located in the southwest of the republic. The area of the district is {{convert|1116.9|km2|sp=us}}.[3] Its administrative center is the rural locality (a selo) of Poretskoye.[1] Population: {{ru-census2010|13,992|;}} 17,311 (2002 Census);[4] {{su-census1989|19,486|.}} The population of Poretskoye accounts for 41.6% of the district's total population.
