A proposed 350 MW biomass power station would have been sited next door to it. Gas-fired power stationThe power station was projected to cost £500 million, and be completed around 2012. It would have been built by ESB International.[1] It would have been sited near the docks and steel works.[1] It would have been a CCGT-type power station that runs on natural gas.[1] In 2007 it was being reported that the "proposals are currently with the Department of Trade and Industry".[2] Proposed wood-fired stationThe £400 million biomass plant was granted planning permission in 2007, despite fierce opposition in the town.[3] The plant would have been a wood-fired station. The plant was being developed by Prenergy Power.[3] However by 2013 there appeared to be no prospect of construction starting.[3] References1. ^1 2 {{cite news |url=http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/finance/2006/0814/1155291312535.html |title=ESB plans €600m plant in Wales - The Irish Times - Mon, Aug 14, 2006 |publisher=www.irishtimes.com |accessdate=2010-01-11 |date=8 August 2006}} {{Portal|Wales|Energy}}{{Energy in Wales}}{{UK-powerstation-stub}}2. ^{{cite news |url=http://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/local-news/power-trip-2283166 |title=Power trip |publisher=WalesOnline |date=18 January 2007}} 3. ^1 2 {{cite news |url=http://www.southwales-eveningpost.co.uk/Campaigners-celebrate-Prenergy-cuts-ties-National/story-18167274-detail/story.html|title=Campaigners celebrate as Prenergy cuts ties with National Grid over proposed Port Talbot biomass plant|date=16 February 2013|publisher=South Wales Evening Post}} 4 : Buildings and structures in Port Talbot|Natural gas-fired power stations in Wales|Proposed natural gas-fired power stations|Proposed power stations in the United Kingdom |
