In 2004, he became director of Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) and stepped down in 2006. Praveen died on January 12, 2010, at the age of 72. He is survived by his wife, Karin; his son, Ashok; and his daughter, Pia.[4] AccomplishmentsChaudhari was a member of scientific institutions such as the National Academy of Engineering, the National Academy of Sciences, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the American Physical Society. He served as executive secretary of President Reagan's Advisory Council on Superconductivity and served on the US National Critical Technology Panel.[6] His awards include the National Medal for Technology,[7] the American Physical Society's George E. Pake Award, the Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc., Morris N. Liebmann Memorial Award, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Harry C. Gatos Distinguished Lecture and Prize, and the National Medal of Technology.[8] References1. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.tributes.com/show/Praveen-Chaudhari-87661096 |title=Praveen Chaudhari 1937 - 2010 - Obituary |publisher=Tributes.com |date= |accessdate=August 12, 2010}} {{Authority control}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Chaudhari, Praveen}}2. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.ctns.org/ssq/csit_bios.html |title=CTNS-Science and the Spiritual Quest |publisher=Ctns.org |date=September 1, 2001 |accessdate=August 12, 2010}} 3. ^{{Cite journal | doi = 10.1016/S1359-0286(99)80003-5| title = Electronic materials| journal = Current Opinion in Solid State and Materials Science| volume = 4| issue = 1| pages = 3| year = 1999| last1 = Tarascon | first1 = J.
