In Greek mythology, Macar ({{IPAc-en|ˈ|m|eɪ|k|ər}}; Ancient Greek: Μάκαρ Makar) or Macareus ({{IPAc-en|m|ə|ˈ|k|ær|i|ə|s|,_|-|ˈ|k|ɑːr|j|uː|s}}; Μακαρεύς Makareus means "happy"[1]) or Macareas ({{lang|el|Μακαρέας}}, Makareas), is the name of several individuals:

  • Macareus, a son of Lycaon, eponym of the town of Macaria in Arcadia.[2][3][4]
  • Macareus, son of Aeolus and either Enarete or Amphithea.
  • Macareus, one of the Heliadae, children of Rhodus and Helios, who became king of Lesbos.
  • Macareus, one of the Lapiths at the wedding of Pirithous and Hippodamia; he killed the Centaur Erigdupus {{IPAc-en|ˌ|ɛ|r|ᵻ|ɡ|ˈ|dj|uː|p|ə|s}}.[5]
  • Macareus, a companion to Odysseus on his voyages, from Nericus, who also encountered Aeneas. He was one of those who got transformed into pigs by Circe.[6]
  • Macareus, a king of Locris and father to Euboea.[7] He may be the same with Macareus, father of Megaclite who consorted with Zeus and became the mother of Thebe and Locrus.[8]
