The Romanesque church was built in the first half of the 13th century out of tuffstone.[1] Already in the 13th century the church was heightened.[1] In the 15th century the church was lengthened to the west and heightened for the second time with Brick.[1] The current tower dates from the early 15th century.[1] The monumental Pipe organ was built in 1853 by L. van Dam & Zn. from Leeuwarden.[1] The church is located on the Kerkstraat 4[2] and was once a Roman Catholic church dedicated to Saint Peter but became a Protestant church after the Protestant reformation. It is listed as a Rijksmonument, number 22894 and is rated with a very high historical value.[3] References1. ^1 2 3 4 5 Alle middeleeuwse kerken: van Harlingen tot Wilhelmshaven, P Karstkarel, p. 125 and 126 {{coord|53|05|51|N|5|50|27|E|source:kolossus-nlwiki|display=title}}2. ^{{cite web |url= http://www.historischekerken.nl/Friesland/Grou.html|title= historischekerken.nl |accessdate=2010-11-28}} 3. ^{{cite web |url= http://www.kich.nl/kich2010/rapport.jsp?id_qualifier=ODB:Rijksmonumentnr&id=22894|title= kich.nl (Kennisinfrastructuur Cultuurhistorie)|accessdate=2010-11-28}} 4 : Churches in Friesland|Rijksmonuments in Friesland|Romanesque architecture in the Netherlands|Protestant churches in the Netherlands |
