The condition is commonly inherited in connection with fragile X syndrome, which is also the second most common genetic cause of intellectual disability. The opposite side of the spectrum is called microorchidism, which is the condition of abnormally small testes. Other possible causes of macroorchidism are long-standing primary hypothyroidism, adrenal remnants in congenital adrenal hyperplasia, follicle stimulating hormone (FSH)-secreting pituitary macroadenomas, local tumors, lymphomas, or aromatase deficiency.[1] References1. ^{{cite journal |doi=10.1016/S1695-4033(06)70015-7 |title=Macroorquidismo: A propósito de un caso |trans-title=Macroorchidism: a case report |language=Spanish |year=2006 |last1=Álvarez-Acevedo García |first1=M. |last2=Molina Rodríguez |first2=M.aA. |last3=González Casado |first3=I. |last4=Nistal Martín De Serrano |first4=M. |last5=Gracia Bouthelier |first5=R. |journal=Anales de Pediatría |volume=64 |pages=89–92 |pmid=16539923}} Further reading
