It flows southwest, roughly paralleling the Pacific Ocean coast, from its source {{convert|12|km|mi|0}} west of the mouth of the Clarence River, and reaches its outflow into the Hapuku River {{convert|5|km|mi|0}} from the latter's mouth at Hapuku.[1] One of the tributaries is the Clinton River.[2] See also
