The Queen Elizabeth II Law Courts, in Derby Square, Liverpool, are operated by Her Majesty's Courts and Tribunals Service. The building contains the city's Crown Court[1] which was previously housed in St George's Hall. It also contains Liverpool District Probate Registry[2] and the Liverpool Youth Court.[3]

It was opened in 1984 and was designed to echo Liverpool Castle, which had stood on the same spot between the 13th and 18th century before being demolished.

High-profile trials

  • Ken Dodd tax evasion trial[4]
  • Murder of Rhys Jones[5]
  • Murder of Anthony Walker[6]
  • Gooch gang trials[7][8]
