He started publishing his drawings in 1988 and has since participated in national and international competitions, winning several awards. He works as cartoonist weekly Damascus newspaper An-Nour. He also works for Al-Baath, a daily newspaper in the same city. He is the president of FECO (Federation of Cartoonist Organizations) for Syria. AwardsSome of Khalil's notable awards have come from the Syrian Youth Festival (Damascus, 1989), the Iranian Culture Center (Tehran, 1992–2003), Teachers United (Damascus, 1995), and the Golagha Contest (Tehran, 2003). He has also participated in many exhibitions in various countries, including Syria, Belgium, Italy, Turkey, Japan, and others.
