Playing careerFarmer played free safety at Duke University from 1992 to 1996. He was all-Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) twice, and as a senior, he led the team in tackles with 111 and played in two collegiate all-star games.[1][2] After graduation with a degree in sociology, he was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the fourth round of the 1996 draft, and played three seasons at linebacker.[3] His career was ended by a knee injury.[4] Administrative careerFarmer was formerly the general manager for the Cleveland Browns. Prior to his position with the Browns, he was director of pro personnel for the Kansas City Chiefs from 2006 to 2012 and a scout for the Atlanta Falcons from 2002 to 2006.[4] Before working in the NFL, he was the academic coordinator for football at Duke University in 2001, and worked in TV and radio from 1998-2000.[1] In February 2015, the Northeast Ohio Media Group reported that Farmer was under investigation for sending texts to coaching staff discussing play-calling during games, which violated the league's electronic device policy.[5] Farmer was eventually suspended in March 2015 for the first four games of the 2015 regular season without pay, and the team was fined $250,000.[6] On January 3, 2016, after Cleveland's final game of the season, Farmer was relieved of his duties as general manager by ownership.[7] References1. ^1 {{cite web|title=Ray Farmer Accepts Scouting Position With Atlanta Falcons|url=http://www.goduke.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=4200&ATCLID=143516|publisher=Duke Sports Information|accessdate=January 11, 2014}} {{Cleveland Browns general manager navbox}}{{Eagles1996DraftPicks}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Farmer, Ray}}{{linebacker-1970s-stub}}2. ^{{cite web|title=Ray Farmer Stats|url=https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/players/ray-farmer-1.html|publisher=Sports Reference|accessdate=January 9, 2014}} 3. ^{{cite web|title=Ray Farmer NFL Football Statistics|url=https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/F/FarmRa20.htm|publisher=Pro Football Reference|accessdate=January 9, 2014}} 4. ^1 {{cite web|last=Reed|first=Tom|title=Ray Farmer relishes opportunity to make a difference with the Cleveland Browns|url=http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ssf/2013/10/ray_farmer_cleveland_browns_nfl_draft_2014.html|publisher=Cleveland.com|accessdate=January 9, 2014}} 5. ^{{cite news |last1=Cabot|first1=Mary Kay |title=Cleveland Browns and GM Ray Farmer facing possible suspension, fine, loss of draft pick for 'Textgate' |url=http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ssf/2015/02/cleveland_browns_ray_farmer_su.html |accessdate=February 4, 2015 |work=cleveland.com |publisher=Northeast Ohio Media Group |date=February 4, 2015}} 6. ^{{cite web|title=Browns GM suspended four games|url=http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/12586605/cleveland-browns-general-manager-ray-farmer-suspended|website=ESPN}} 7. ^{{Cite web|title = Cleveland Browns fire Mike Pettine, GM Ray Farmer|url = http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000614532/article/cleveland-browns-fire-mike-pettine-gm-ray-farmer|website = NFL.com|accessdate = January 4, 2016|date = January 3, 2016}} 11 : 1974 births|Living people|American football linebackers|American football safeties|Cleveland Browns executives|Duke Blue Devils football players|Kansas City Chiefs executives|Philadelphia Eagles players|People from White Plains, New York|Sportspeople from Westchester County, New York|Players of American football from New York (state) |
