(abbreviated READ) is a non-profit charitable organization in the United States, founded in 1999 by Al Sikes and Alain Lebec.[2] The program was first conducted at two parochial schools in 2000. The READ foundation was created in light of the high proportion of children in New York City from low-income households who, at that time, read below grade level. READ benefits kindergarten and first-grade students at risk of reading below grade level. The average session is forty-five minutes of phonics and fluency, conducted by middle through high-school students.[4] References1. ^1 {{Cite news|url=http://www.nydailynews.com/archives/ny_local/2005/02/06/2005-02-06_lesson_in_tutoring__teens_he.html|title=Lesson in tutoring Teens help kids boost reading skills|last=Wolfer|first=Sandra|date=6 February 2005|publisher=Daily News|accessdate=2009-11-08|location=New York}}{{dead link|date=April 2018 |bot=InternetArchiveBot |fix-attempted=yes }} [1][2]2. ^1 {{Cite web|url=http://www.genesis-foundation.org/cmsen/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=125&Itemid=34|title=Reading Excellence and Discovery Foundation|publisher=Genesis Foundation|accessdate=10 November 2009}}{{dead link|date=April 2018 |bot=InternetArchiveBot |fix-attempted=yes }} }}{{Nonprofit-org-stub}} 1 : Educational organizations based in the United States |
