Recovery was a sloop that was wrecked near Port Stephens, New South Wales, Australia in 1816. Peter Hibbs was Recovery{{'}}s owner. In early June 1816 Recovery headed from the Hawkesbury to Port Jackson with a cargo of grain when a storm came up that blew Recovery out to sea. On turning the ship around it was wrecked near Port Stephens. The crew of two men, and a woman passenger, struggled ashore and walked 50 miles to Newcastle. On the way some aborigines stripped of all their clothes. At Newcastle they were given passage to Sydney on the sloop, Windsor which was also wrecked.[1][2][3]References1. ^Australian Shipwrecks - vol 1 1622-1850, Charles Bateson, AH and AW Reed, Sydney, 1972, {{ISBN|0-589-07112-2}} p53 {{Navbox shipwrecks of New South Wales|Wreckshunter}}{{coord missing|New South Wales}}{{ship-stub}}2. ^The late tempestuous weather, Sydney Gazette, 6 July 1816, Retrieved 21 February 2013 3. ^{{cite news |url=http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article2176717 |title=Sydney. |newspaper=The Sydney Gazette and New South Wales Advertiser |volume=FOURTEENTH |issue=659 |location=New South Wales, Australia |date=6 July 1816 |page=2 |via=National Library of Australia}} 9 : Shipwrecks of the Hunter Region|Maritime incidents in 1816|1816 in Australia|1788–1850 ships of Australia|Ships built in Australia|Coastal trading vessels of Australia|Port Stephens Council|Sloops of Australia|Individual sailing vessels |
