The Restorative Army of Peru was a military organization, formed in 1837, with the purpose of dissolving the Peruvian-Bolivian Confederation. It was led by Marshal Agustín Gamarra who held the title of Provisional President of the Republic of Peru as well. The primary mission of the army was to reunite the republics of North Peru and South Peru into one Republic of Peru.

Members

The majority of the officers had been sent in exile by Andrés de Santa Cruz. These officers included Agustín Gamarra, Ramón Castilla, Manuel Ignacio de Vivanco, and Antonio Gutiérrez de la Fuente. They were also joined by the Battalion of Huaylas, as well as the Peruvian Hunters Party. Together with the Chilean Army, they made up the United Restorative Army.

Tribute

The dissolution of the Peruvian-Bolivian Confederation took place in the town of Ancachs de la Villa de Yungay, of the Department of Huaylas. In memory of this victory, the Department of Huaylas was renamed as the Department of Ancash which remains its name today.
