It occurs in the Eastern Alps,[1] and has been naturalised in parts of the Carpathians.[2] It grows on carbonate-rich soils, whereas its close relative R. ferrugineum grows on acid soils; where the two occur together, they frequently produce the hybrid Rhododendron × intermedium.[1] References1. ^1 {{cite book |author=M.
