Richard Challoner School is an all boys secondary school[10] with a mixed sixth form[10] that is federated with Holy Cross School, New Malden.[9] It has an academy status[3][9] and is located in Kingston upon Thames,[3] south-west London, England. The school is named after Bishop Richard Challoner.

The Headmasters of the school since its founding in 1959[2] were:

  • Oswald Jones (1959–1977) (18 years)
  • John Gwynne (1977–1994)[10] (17 years)
  • Tom Cahill (1994–2015)[11][23] (21 years)
  • Sean Maher (2015–present)[12][9] (3 years)

Arts

The Richard Challoner Studio Theatre was officially opened by the Hungarian Ambassador in 2008.[13] Various productions were first performed there, including Oliver,[14] The Government Inspector, Antigone,Robin Hood, Sherlock Holmes: And the Pearls of Death, Chaplin: The Early Years and Romeo and Juliet, and then performed, on tour, in various theatres in Hungary, such as the Kolibri Theatre in Budapest.[15] Many of the plays are written by drama teacher Mr. N Zoladkiewicz, who retired at the end of the 2016–17 school year.[16]

The school also performs musicals. The most recent was A Slice Of Saturday Night in 2017,[17] with the previous performance of Grease Lightning[18] having happened in partnership with Willson Academy of Performing Arts in 2016.

  • Jérémie Boga - Footballer who plays for Chelsea
  • Wayne Brown - Professional footballer currently playing in Finland. Previously at Fulham, Bristol Rovers and Brentford. He made his Premier League debut against Manchester United at Old Trafford in 2009
  • Jake Clarke-Salter - Footballer for Chelsea FC who recently made his debut
  • Jimmy Glass - Former Goalkeeper known for last minute winner for Carlisle United in 1999 that kept them in the Football League.
  • Ben Hawkey - actor who starred in the HBO series Game of Thrones amongst other titles.
  • Tom Holland-Currently plays Spiderman in the Marvel Cinematic Universe
  • Charly Musonda (footballer, born 1996) - Footballer who plays for Chelsea
  • Steven Reid - Former professional and international footballer who last played for Burnley F.C.[19]
  • Ryan Sweeney - Professional footballer for AFC Wimbledon after recently signing a professional contract. Has also represented Republic of Ireland national football team at under-18 level
  • Rhys Taylor - Reserve Goalkeeper at Chelsea FC
  • James Ward - writer, founder of Boring Conference
  • Marco Loughran - swimmer, competed at London 2012 Olympics.
