He played twice in the Football League with Southend United, before dropping into non-League football. CareerAlderton started his career as a youth team player will Millwall,[1][2] before joining Southend United in 2002.[1][2][3] He made his debut for Southend on 13 April, in the Third Division 2–0 home defeat to Shrewsbury Town, replacing Ian Selley as a substitute in the 65th minute.[4] He made his second and last appearance for Southend seven days later away at Macclesfield Town in the 0–0 draw, replacing Barrington Belgrave in the 72nd minute.[5] He then dropped into non-League football joining Conference National club Gravesend & Northfleet in October 2002.[6] In July 2003, Alderton moved to Chelmsford City,[7][8] before taking a pay-cut to sign for Wivenhoe Town in December 2003.[9] Later in the month, Alderton then signed for Aveley.[10] Moves to Tilbury followed in October 2004, and Leyton in September 2005 – where he was made captain.[11] Whilst at Leyton, Alderton had an unsuccessful trial spell with League One club, Brentford in October 2006.[12] Alderton then signed for Redbridge two years later, when he was released by Leyton.[11] He then played for Enfield Town, before signing initially on loan for Sittingbourne,[13] making the move permanent in November 2008.[13] References1. ^1 {{ cite web | url = http://www.nonleaguedaily.com/teams/players.php?pid=15325 | title = Player profile: Rio Alderton | publisher = Non-League Daily | accessdate = 18 July 2009 }} 2. ^1 {{ cite web | url = http://www.soccerbase.com/players_details.sd?playerid=26806 | title = Players: Rio Alderton | publisher = Soccerbase | accessdate = 18 July 2009 }} 3. ^{{ cite web | url = http://archive.harwichandmanningtreestandard.co.uk/2002/4/3/164152.html | title = New boys seek Blues slots | publisher = Harwich & Manningtree Standard | date = 3 April 2002 | accessdate = 19 July 2009 }} 4. ^{{ cite web | url = http://www.soccerbase.com/results3.sd?gameid=359502 | title = Southend 0 – 2 Shrewsbury | publisher = Soccerbase | accessdate = 18 July 2009 }} 5. ^{{ cite web | url = http://www.soccerbase.com/results3.sd?gameid=360102 | title = Macclesfield 0 – 0 Southend | publisher = Soccerbase | accessdate = 18 July 2009 }} 6. ^{{ cite web | url = http://www.nonleaguedaily.com/news/index.php?newsmode=FULL&nid=6399 | title = Ford signs Rio | publisher = Non-League Daily | date = 5 October 2002 | accessdate = 18 July 2009 }} 7. ^{{ cite web | url = http://www.nonleaguedaily.com/news/index.php?newsmode=FULL&nid=11227 | title = Rio joins Chelmsford | publisher = Non-League Daily | date = 11 July 2003 | accessdate = 18 July 2009 }} 8. ^{{ cite web | url = http://www.nonleaguedaily.com/news/index.php?newsmode=FULL&nid=13371 | title = Chelmsford make Alderton available | publisher = Non-League Daily | date = 23 October 2003 | accessdate = 18 July 2009 }} 9. ^{{ cite web | url = http://archive.clactonandfrintongazette.co.uk/2003/12/3/137509.html | title = Pitt signs Alderton | publisher = Clacton Gazette | date = 3 December 2003 | accessdate = 18 July 2009 }} 10. ^{{ cite web | url = http://www.nonleaguedaily.com/news/index.php?newsmode=FULL&nid=14554 | title = Latest transfers | publisher = Non-League Daily | date = 20 December 2003 | accessdate = 18 July 2009 }} 11. ^1 {{ cite web | url = http://www.nonleaguedaily.com/news/index.php?newsmode=FULL&nid=46791 | title = Alderton coup for Redbridge | publisher = Non-League Daily | date = 8 December 2007 | accessdate = 18 July 2009 }} 12. ^{{ cite web | url = http://www.guardian-series.co.uk/sport/localsport/955361.break_a_blessing_for_lilywhites/ | first = Peter | last = King | title = Break a blessing for Lilywhites | publisher = Waltham Forest Guardian | date = 5 October 2006 | accessdate = 19 July 2009 }} 13. ^1 {{ cite web | url = http://www.nonleaguedaily.com/news/index.php?newsmode=FULL&nid=53593 | title = Alderton signing delights Abbott | publisher = Non-League Daily | date = 17 November 2008 | accessdate = 18 July 2009 }} External links
