The building is located south of the River Oaks neighborhood in the Upper Kirby district.[2] HistoryBuilt in 1910, the building, known as John Smith County School,[3] served as a county schoolhouse. John F. Staub remodeled the building to serve as the headquarters of the Forum of Civics, an organization founded by Will Hogg. In 1939 the Hogg estate bequeathed the Forum of Civics to the University of Texas.
