}}Robert Edward Homans (November 8, 1877 – July 28, 1947) was an American actor who entered films in 1923 after a lengthy stage career.[1][2]

Life and career

Robert Homans was born November 8, 1877, in Malden, Massachusetts.[3] Although he studied medicine for three years after his college graduation, a 1906 newspaper article noted that "the 'stage bee' got into his bonnet and nothing would do but that he become an actor."[4] His Broadway credits include The Blue Bird (1910), The Blue Envelope (1915), Johnny, Get Your Gun (1916) and Like a King (1921).[5][5]

His screen debut came in Madame Sherry. He appeared in some 400 films between 1917 and 1946.[3] Homans died in Los Angeles, California on July 28, 1947, from a heart attack.[3][6]

On April 18, 1909, Homans married Agnes J. Mellon in San Francisco.[7] (Another source gives his wife's name as Agnes Maynard.)[8]
