From 1999 to 2008, he served as the Bishop of Whitby, a suffragan bishop in the Diocese of York.[2] Early lifeLadds was educated at Canterbury Christ Church University.[3] A keen gardener, he was a chemistry teacher at Borden Grammar School, Sittingbourne before being ordained.[3] Ordained ministryHe began his ordained ministry in 1981[4] as a curate in Hythe, Kent[5] and was then successively chaplain to Stewart Cross (Bishop of Blackburn), Rector of Bretherton, Rector of Preston and finally (before his ordination to the episcopate) Archdeacon of Lancaster (1997–1999).
