The region includes the communities and hamlets of Balzac, Bottrel, Bragg Creek, Cochrane Lake, Conrich, Elbow Valley, Dalemead, Dalroy, Delacour, Indus, Janet, Kathyrn, Keoma, Langdon, Madden, Shepard, the Bearspaw-Glendale area, and Springbank, the village of Beiseker, the towns of Cochrane, Crossfield, the City of Chestermere,[1]Airdrie, and small regions west, north and east of the City of Calgary. The original boards' name was called Calgary Rural Schools Division #41,[2] then eventually changed to Rocky View Schools Division #41. SizeThe RVS serves approximately 24000 students with educational services from grades Kindergarten to Grade 12. The district operates 53 schools in its jurisdiction.[3] GovernanceThe Rocky View Schools Division is the fifth-largest school board in Alberta, and operates independently of its neighbouring Calgary school boards; Calgary Board of Education and the Calgary Catholic School District, but still operates under the direct authority of the provincial government of Alberta. The board consists of seven members who are elected every three years during municipal elections to represent seven urban and rural wards. Special programsThe RVS offers a variety of special program to their students such as French Immersion, Christian Programs, Home Education and Outreach Campuses. The district board also recognises students and their families with First Nations, Metis, and Inuit heritage by providing support services and programs through Native Liaison Workers. Senior high schoolsIn Alberta, a senior high school teaches grades 10-12. However, due to the population size of its district, rural schools often teach lower grades (Kindergarten to grade 9)
