Erected in 1967, from territory in the Archdiocese of Zamboanga, the diocese is suffragan to the Archdiocese of Ozamiz. Comprising the whole province of Zamboanga del Norte, the diocese has experienced no jurisdictional changes. The current bishop is Severo Cagatan Caermare, appointed in 2014, making him the youngest in the country at the age of 45. Ordinaries
