The film received the 1986 German Film Award for Best Feature Film (Bester Spielfilm), and Barbara Sukowa won the Cannes Film Festival's Best Actress Award and the German Film Award for Best Actress for her performance as Rosa Luxemburg.[1][2] PlotPolish socialist and Marxist Rosa Luxemburg dreams about revolution during the era of German Wilhelminism. While Luxemburg campaigns relentlessly for her beliefs, getting repeatedly imprisoned in Germany as well as in Poland, she spars with lovers and comrades until the ambitious leader is assassinated by Freikorps for her leadership in the Spartacist uprising after World War I in 1919. Reception{{quote| Miss von Trotta's film, with a fine, soberly intelligent performance by Barbara Sukowa (the seductive star of Rainer Werner Fassbinder's Lola), is a first-rate introduction to an extremely complicated personality. It's necessarily simplified, as well as biased on behalf of those aspects of Luxemburg that will speak most clearly to today's audiences.|Vincent Canby – The New York Times[3]}}References1. ^{{cite web |url=http://www.festival-cannes.com/en/archives/ficheFilm/id/796/year/1986.html |title=Festival de Cannes: Rosa Luxemburg |accessdate=10 July 2009|work=festival-cannes.com}} 2. ^{{cite web|title=German Film Awards for 1986|url=https://www.imdb.com/event/ev0000280/1986|website=IMDB|accessdate=6 July 2015}} 3. ^[https://movies.nytimes.com/movie/review?res=9B0DEFDB1130F932A35756C0A961948260 .Rosa Luxemburg (1986) FILM: 'ROSA LUXEMBURG,' NEW LIGHT ON EARLY LEFTIST] External links
