It is a demersal fish that lives on sandy, muddy bottoms at depths from {{convert|15|to|1900|m|ft}}, though it is most commonly found at depths of between {{convert|400|and|600|m|ft}}. It can reach {{convert|62|cm|in}} in length and can weigh up to {{convert|4.4|kg|lb}}.
