The line runs from Niederweningen, in the north-west of the canton of Zürich, to Zurich Hauptbahnhof before continuing via Zürich Stadelhofen and Uster to Rapperswil. It serves the following stations:[1][2]
Rolling stockMost services are operated with RABe 511 class (weekdays) and RABe 514 (weekends) trains. Some services are run by Re 450 class locomotives pushing or pulling double-deck passenger carriages.{{cite needed|date=February 2016}} SchedulingThe train frequency on the line is usually 30 minutes and the trip takes 72 minutes.[2] HistoryThe service was started between Rapperswil and Birmensdorf on 10 December 2006, following line improvements. On 9 December 2007, the line was extended from Birmensdorf to Affoltern am Albis. With the introduction of the new timetable in late 2015, the western terminus of the service was switched from Affoltern am Albis to Niederweningen. The stations between Zürich Altstetten and Affoltern am Albis that are no longer served by the S15 are now served by the S14.[1] See also{{Portal|Trains|Switzerland}}
