Halloin (March 20, 1923 - January 11, 2013)[1] was an American politician who served as the Mayor of Green Bay, Wisconsin from 1979 to 1995.[2][2] Halloin, who served for four consecutive terms, was the longest-serving Mayor of Green Bay in history.[3] BiographyHalloin was born on March 20, 1923 to Louis Joseph and Laura Halloin in Lincoln, Wisconsin.[3][4] Halloin attended, but never finished college, which he described as his one major regret.[2] Halloin served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a participant in the D-Day invasion of Normandy and the liberation of the Dachau concentration camp.[3] He married Isabelle Mastriocola on June 18, 1949. He was elected to the Green Bay City Council for the first time in 1962.[3] He served for eight terms as an alderman and supervisor representing Green Bay's west side.[3] Halloin served as the city's mayor for sixteen years from 1979 to 1995. During his tenure, Halloin obtained funding for the construction of a new Walnut Street Bridge, which crosses the Fox River.[2] Halloin helped to upgrade Lambeau Field, the home stadium of the Green Bay Packers, and acquired land for the present-day riverwalk along the Fox River.[2] He declined to seek re-election in 1995 and retired from office after four-consecutive, four-year terms.[3] He was succeeded by Paul Jadin.[3] Sam Halloin died on January 11, 2013, at the age of 89.[3] His wife, Isabelle, died in 2010.[2] References1. ^Greenbay Press Gazette Obitaury {{DEFAULTSORT:Halloin, Samuel J.}}2. ^1 2 3 4 {{cite news |first=Charles|last=Davis|title=Former Green Bay Mayor Sam Halloin dies at age 89 |url=http://www.greenbaypressgazette.com/article/20130112/GPG0101/301120284/Former-Green-Bay-Mayor-Sam-Halloin-dies-age-89?gcheck=1 |work= Green Bay Press Gazette |publisher= |date=2013-01-12 |accessdate=2013-02-02}} 3. ^1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 {{cite news |first=|last=|title=Former Green Bay Mayor Halloin dies |url=http://www.jsonline.com/news/obituaries/former-green-bay-mayor-halloin-dies-rf8c1g3-186618321.html |work= Milwaukee Journal Sentinel |publisher= |date=2013-01-12 |accessdate=2013-02-02}} 4. ^Political Graveyard 7 : 1923 births|2013 deaths|Mayors of Green Bay, Wisconsin|Wisconsin city council members|United States Army soldiers|American army personnel of World War II|People from Kewaunee County, Wisconsin |
