Episodes{{main|List of M.A.S.K. episodes}}A total of 75 syndicated episodes over two seasons were broadcast from September 1985 to November 1986. The first season consisted of 65 episodes, but the second season, whose theme centered around auto racing instead of crimefighting, lasted only ten episodes. ProductionOne of many cartoons produced during the 1980s as a vehicle for toy merchandising, M.A.S.K., was a hybrid of popular era cartoons G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero and The Transformers.{{cn|date=June 2018}} When originally broadcast, M.A.S.K. was the first closed-captioned series to air in first-run syndication.[4] Home videoSeveral episodes of the series were released under Karl-Lorimar's "Kideo Video" branding on VHS in the 1980s, with two episodes per tape. The "racing" second season was distributed by Tempest Video. Several episodes were edited together into feature-length shows and released under the titles M.A.S.K The Movie, and M.A.S.K The Movie II. M.A.S.K. episodes have been released on DVD in three different regions.
ReceptionIGN voted M.A.S.K. the 99th-best animated series in 2009, calling it one of the most popular cartoon/toy marketing franchises of the 1980s, stating that it took many of the strengths of G.I. Joe and Transformers while taking few of their flaws.[9]References1. ^{{cite web|first1=David|last1=Reddish|url=http://screenrant.com/animated-superhero-tv-shows-you-forgot-about-unknown/|website=Screen Rant|title=15 Animated Superhero TV Shows You Completely Forgot about|date=1 September 2016|publisher=Screen Rant|access-date=23 June 2018}} 2. ^{{cite news|title= Battle of the Fun Factories|work= Time|date=1985-12-16|url=http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,960379-2,00.html|accessdate=2010-03-03}} 3. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/49804/mask-the-complete-series/ |title=MASK.: The Complete Series : DVD Talk Review of the DVD Video |publisher=Dvdtalk.com |date= |accessdate=2013-08-19}} 4. ^{{cite book|last=Engelhardt|first=Tom|editor1-last=Gitlin|editor1-first=Todd|title=Watching Television: A Pantheon Guide to Popular Culture|chapter=Children's Television: The Shortcake Strategy|page=94|isbn=0-394-74651-1|year=1986|publisher=Pantheon Books (Random House)}} 5. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/releases/MASK-Complete-Series/11191|title=MASK - The Complete Series|publisher=TV Shows on DVD|language=English|date=9 August 2011|accessdate=6 June 2016|deadurl=yes|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20160815222225/http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/releases/MASK-Complete-Series/11191|archivedate=15 August 2016|df=dmy-all}} 6. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/releases/MASK-Volume-Release/11192|title=MASK - Volume 1|publisher=TV Shows on DVD|language=English|date=9 August 2011|accessdate=26 January 2011|deadurl=yes|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20110628203325/http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/releases/MASK-Volume-Release/11192|archivedate=28 June 2011|df=dmy-all}} 7. ^{{cite web |url=http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/MASK-DVDs-Planned/15148 |title=''M.A.S.K.''
