It is approximately {{convert|380|km|mi}} and drains a watershed of {{convert|2100|km2|sqmi}}. The river drains into a large delta that covers nearly {{convert|300|km2|sqmi}}. GeographyThe river begins on Cerro Caramanta in the West Andes. The delta is due north of Bahía Málaga and Buenaventura.
