Sarangay is a creature resembling a bull with a huge muscular body and a jewel attached to its ears. When the Spanish first heard the story in the 17th century, they thought it was a minotaur as the creature is depicted by the natives as half bull (male water buffalo) and half man.

According to old folklore, Sarangays have a jewel or a precious gemstone in their ears that they are protecting. Those who try to steal it from them will be killed mercilessly. It was also said that when a Sarangay gets angry, its nose emits smoke.[1]

In popular culture

  • In the mobile game EverWing, Sarangay is one of the featured creatures the player can unlock.[2][3]
