The Saudi Authority for Industrial Cities and Technology Zones[1] ({{lang-ar|الهيئة السعودية للمدن الصناعية ومناطق التقنية}}), also known simply as MODON is a government organization created by the Government of Saudi Arabia in 2001 through Ministerial Legislation No. 235 dated 27/8/1422H. It is responsible for the regulation and promotion of Industrial Estates and Technology Zones in Saudi Arabia and to encourage the private sector to become involved in the development, operation and maintenance of Industrial Estates. Industrial citiesExisting industrial citiesMODON has set up 35 industrial cities, including five MODON Oases (industrial cities set-up for women workers), and oversees the organization of these cities spread over various regions of the Kingdom. An area of more than 190 million square meters has been developed in industrial cities in Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, Makkah, Qassim, Al-Ahsa, Madinah, Assir, Sakakah, Tabuk, Ha'il, Najran, Sudair, Al-Kharj, Al-Baha, Ar’ar, Hafr Al-Batin, Zulfi, Durma and Shaqraa. The investments in these cities exceed 500 billion riyals ($133 billion). These industrial cities employ more than 528 thousand workers.[2] The following table shows the total area in industrial cities up to the end of 2011:
MODON oasesModon oases are industrial cities specifically set-up for women workers. Currently there are five Modon oases as follows:
Ready-built factoriesMODON built ready industrial buildings, on an area of 1500 m², consisting areas for production, parking, landscaping, security room and management and utilities. Ready-built factories are one of the pilot projects offered by MODON to serve industry, in a number of industrial cities, serving medium and small entrepreneurs alike. The idea of this project focuses on easing the production process of the investor wherein they do not have to engage in the time-consuming design and construction processes. By the end of 2016, MODON was successful in providing 604 ready-built factories, including factories under construction, in a number of industrial cities. Sudair Industrial CitySudair Industrial City set out to change the concept of industrial cities by providing integrated services, both key services such as water and energy and support services such as housing, education, business and recreation centers, research centers and transportation, among others. Strategically located on a highway between Riyadh and Al-Qassim. Development of this city started in 2009. Industrial Cities under developmentModon is developing new industrial cities in Sudair, Jazan, Ar’ar, Al-Kharj, Al-Gurayaat, Zulfi, Al-Baha and a second industrial estate in Jeddah. Also, Modon is re-developing existing industrial cities, as well as building model factories. Modon is also establishing industrial cities in the reformatories of Al-Ha'er and Jeddah in cooperation with the Public Administration of Prisons. Director Generals of MODONTawfiq Al Rabiah was Director General of MODON from April 2007 to January 2012.[3]Eng. Saleh Al-Rasheed was Director General of MODON from December 2011 to April 2017.[4] Eng. Khaled Al-Salem has been Acting Director General since April 2017.
