Officially founded in 1915 and currently plays in the Honor Division. It is a club that has played twice in the Spanish second division. HistoryErandio Club is talking about an entity with character inside and outside of Biscay. The albiazul club is one of the few in the province whose name has come to appear in the select list of champions in the Spanish state, albeit their best times were back in the 1930s, 1940s and early 1950s, but always within the parameters of a very modest club. One of the key characteristics of Erandio is constituted and is based on the fact that all the teams they had were always formed by amateur players. Its sports career is excellent and not less so is the list of players who, based on their ranks, came to perform in the First Division. The Athletic Club can give witness to this: Juanín, Ipiña, Pitxi Garizurieta, Arqueta, Zarra, Venancio, José Luis Garay, José Luis Bilbao Bala Negra, Higinio Ortúzar, Alejandro Bilbao and Sertutxa defended the elastic rojiblanca in different stages. Other players such as Juan Ramón and Basauri (Valencia), Terín Álvarez (Racing Santander), Lorenzo Fernández Learra Lorín (Racing, Zaragoza, Montpellier and Nîmes from the 1st French division, then trained and played in the Bañols of the 3rd division), J.L. Perez Tokilla (Oviedo and Deportivo), Pedro María Herrera (Salamanca, Celta and Zaragoza), Toni Gorriaran (Oviedo and Alavés) and Savin Bilbao (Deportivo de la Coruña) are also part of the invaluable of Erandio's contribution to the football elite. Beginnings of Erandio ClubIn the village of Erandio, soccer was practiced. According to the story, it was brought by the English, who came as technicians to develop the mining industry of Biscay. According to versions from the oldest people of the place, the Erandio team was founded without being officially federated, between the years 1913 and 1914, and it seems to be that on 2 January 1915, is when the team federates. Curiously, there is no data in the Club nor in the Biscay Soccer Federation of the exact date as a federated team. In said years of 1913, 1914 and 1915, with players of the teams Ya Veremos and Aurrera is when it is really founded what today denominates as S.D Erandio Club. The erandiotarra uniform was a blue and white jersey with vertical stripes and black pants. The team takes part in the championship organized by the Bilbao Children's Federation and get the championship title, with a beautiful and precious cup. They were the architects of this victory: Pereira, Duñabeitia, Alonso, Aguirre, Pérez, Aguirre, Resano, Martín, Segura, Sasieta, Gerico. That success encouraged the fans in town. A director's board was formed, whose president was don Basileo de Lores. The next year (1915), Erandio Club militates in the North Regional, in Second Category, until 1918. It had been federated for three years already. The team was composed by Urquijo, Juanín, Martín, Ozárniz, Cabia, De la Hera, Sasieta, Aguirre, Ayo and Lucio. Already in 1916, the Erandio Club played in Lamiaco and kept doing it until the field was closed. It was then when the Directive requested from don Laureano Jado the lands denominated the Machaqueo, next to Bilbao to Las Arenas general road and near the railroad. The characteristics of this field indicate that its playing field is 104 meters long by 65.50 wide, with a capacity to 9,000 spectators, more than enough for the club's needs. It was a collaborative effort of many arms: managers, partners, and supporters. A cleanup whose works were done even at night. In 1917, the field was fenced, and the Society was established in the first floor of Café Roque. That field did required improvements. It was without walls and the terrain was in poor conditions. It was the Athletic Bilbao and Deusto who gave Erandio their spaces to continue playing in the Serie A. It was 1918. Mr. Jado -again- accedes to wall up the field. The board was composed by Santiago Vidarte, as president; Miguel Duñabeitia, Félix Amade, Ángel Ballarín, Crisanto Zuazo, Ramiro Cruza and others. Ategorri field was being born (Red Door). From the year 1922 to 1927 are difficult times for the Erandio Club. An economic crisis, leaves on the team... It descended to the B category. But the 1929-1930 season the team makes a comeback and wins the championship. The team was Garay, Amallobieta, Arqueta, Ortuondo, Nieva, Lequerica, Gutiérrez, Cassi, Trillo, Lizaso, Iriondo, Zárraga, Juan Ramón. In 1932, the team proclaimed runner-up in amateur Spain, losing 0-3 against the Madrid Empire in the Chamartín field. The Erandio Club took a new pulse in 1931, and was proclaimed champion of the Biscay amateur championship. It is again champion in Spain amateur (and it could be said in capital letters) in 1933. They won to Sevilla in Barcelona, in Montjuic Stadium; it was 25 June. The championship team was formed by Leicea, Arrizabalaga, Inchalo, Simón, Berinkua, Gonzalo, Barroeta, Lucio, Iriondo, Ipiña, Díaz de la Campa. The Erandio proclaimed champion of Biscay in the years 1933, 34 and 35. Will the amateur champion. After the civil war, the Erandio Club was accommodated in one of the numerous groups in which the Spanish Second Division was divided during the 1939-1940 season. The Erandio was sixth in its group, but the restructuring of the category left the Erandio out of the same at the end of the season. The reconstruction of the club after the civil war attracted to Erandio many young players arising from anonymity, even though some of them would reach fame in a very short time. In that very young team of the post-war excelled a young 18 year-old striker native from Asúa neighborhood from Erandio, with his sensational performances in the striker position he soon got the attention of the Athletic Club, also immersed in the recomposition of its decimated team and, after some quick negotiations, Athletic Club of Bilbao quickly hired him. His name was Pedro Telmo Zarraonandia -Zarra- and would become over the years the top scorer of the history of the Spanish soccer league. The Erandio repeats as champion of the Biscay Cup in the 1941-1942 season. In the next season (1942- 1943) makes the doblete and gets to be champion of the amateur Biscay Cup and champion of the Biscay Cup. And, again, in the season 1943-1944 is champion of the amateur Biscay Cup. In 1944, the Erandio proclaimed champion of the Spanish Third Division with Ares, Martín, Chiqui, Madariaga, Pichi, Dámaso, Venancio (another future glory of the Ahletic), Aguirregoitia, Bilbao y Urgoiti. Humberto de Guezuraga was the president, but did not achieved the ascention. Finally, after several seasons touching the ascention, the Erandio reached the greatest success of its history in 1949 by achieving the promotion to the Spanish Second Division. The erandiotarras remained one single season in the silver division(1949-1950) where they played with many historical teams (Osasuna, Racing de Santander, Sporting de Gijón or Real Zaragoza). The descent was consummated that same season by occupying the 14th place. By the end of the season the field is evicted and the historical Ategorri disappears with deep sorrow of the town and fans. Erandio PilgrimageThe Erandio has to play in borrowed fields such as Leorbaso, Ibaiondo, Echévarri, Lasesarre, San Ignacio, Garellano... It is worth noting the pride and determination of its managers, partners, and fans, without their effort and support the team would not have subsisted. It should also be noted among other selfless managers, the great work of don Damián Zabaleta, a late honorary president, whose active and positive collaboration in all vicissitudes of the club proved of great value. During that pilgrimage, the base team of Erandio, Txorierri Frimotor, was champion of Biscay in the 1956-1957 season, and in that same season achieved the runner-up of Spain, losing against Murcia. In 1965, the Golden Weddings of the Erandio Club were celebrated. There were innumerable celebrations, excelling the match played at San Mamés against Athletic Bilbao. The enthusiast don José María Fruniz was the president of Eradio. New AtegorriThe Eradio Club runs out of a field in the year 1950. It has to be made a pleasant memory of the men that with their personal effort, without limits, were able to get the terrains to make feasible the new field. It began with the famous raffle that, year after year, was set up in the town square, during the San Agustín celebrations. With the money obtained and through a general meeting to the effect, by a stock of 10,000 pesetas lands were acquired that, later, would be sold. With said amount, other lands were bought that due to their unevenness needed filling. After many difficulties, Ategorri [1] opened its doors on October 13, 1967. If by any chance the Ategorri field stands out, it is because of its excellent drainage system, that makes possible, even in the most intense periods of rain, that the playing field shows more than an acceptable condition for the practice of soccer. Through the economic contribution of a group of managers of the erandiotarra entity, acquired a hollow in the field where the current Ategorri is. To refill the hollow, the Erandio had to pay an amount of money for each truck that unloaded the stone, slate type, that was used for the refill. It can be said that that amount was a wise investment of the future since the slate makes that, when it rains, the playing field absorbs the water in an exceptional way. If this is a motive that makes the albiazul Club proud of its fief, another no less important is that the Eradio was one of five teams of Biscay that owned their own fields, along with Athletic Club, Baskonia, Abanto, and Galea. Due to the cost of the field, a popular bilbainada was created:{{Quote|"Viva Erandio, viva Erandio vivan los erandiotarras Viva el Campo de Ategorri que vale una millonada viva Erandio, viva Erandio..."|Erandio Club|source=}} The new Ategorri was opened with a friendly match against Athletic Bilbao, with don José María Fruniz as president. It is worth mentioning that in 1968, under the presidency of don María José Mesa, a landslide forced the reconstruction of the field, its dimensions then expanded 20 meters, and having to go back to the San Ignacio field. Given the modest characteristics of the club, it is worth highlighting the great work of that pucelano, Genaro, who collaborated, quietly, selfless, like he was a native erandiotarra, in the remodeling works of the field. The year 1970, being president don Imanol Azcarate, a brewery (with bar service) is built inside the facilities, place from where it can be observed a wonderful view of the river. The year 1972, with don José María García Iturbe as president, the metalic tribune is buit, in which work collaborate actively don José María Mesa and don Luis María Suazo. Drainage, tribune, playing field, and more improvements for Ategorri, agglutinated thousands of efforts of other erandiotarras and the Club fans. The Erandio militates the Preferential Regional from year 1969 until 1972. This last season the team returns to the Third Division. In 1976, they get a location for the social headquarters of the Club, close to the level step. In the following season, until the 1977 season, they play in the Preferential Regional, and the Erandio wins the championship five times in a row. In the 1980-1981 season, the Eerandio reached the highest point of its sport history achieving the ascension to Second B, after proclaiming Third Division champions and surpassing in the promotion the jienense team of Martos and the leonés of the Ponferrandina. It was that one of the most glorious campaigns of the club, both because of the game as well as the team, being their coach the santurtziarra Blas Ziarreta, a whole institution into the Biscay soccer and occupied the Eibar bench, in Second A. The seventh place achieved during the debut season (1981-1982) marked their best classification in the new category. The initial illusion gave step to the crude reality: the budget contrast was diminishing the possibilities of permanence of a team whose first part of the sporting decline culminated with the relegation to Third Division, happened in 1984-1985. Time of instabilitySince 1985, the entity has experienced low moments combining the Third Division (1985-1988/1992-1994), and the Preferential Regional (1988-1992/1994-), category in which current equivalent (Honor Division of the Biscay Regional) was until 2007. In the year 1990, and with Luis María Suazo as president, the club celebrated their 75th Anniversary in a federative way, given that, as indicated the club was founded in the year 1913, the same year of the Biscay Soccer Federation. In the season 2006-2007 the team has dropped to the Preferential Regional, that actually is a category less that a few years ago. In October 2010, there was an extraordinaire national assembly, with a very important participation, in which was approved an agreement with the municipalization of all of the Club's properties, among which stands out the historic Ategorri Soccer Field.[2] The reason of the municipalization is because the already scarce low attendance of spectators and because of the impossibility to afford the required reparations for the maintenance of the long-lived field. On 14 May 2011, the Erandio achieved to return to the División de Honor after four seasons by winning 4-1 to Padura. After three seasons in the División de Honor, Erandio during the 2013-2014 season finished in second position and promoting against Tolosa and San Inazio (Álava) winning said promotion and occupying the vacancy of the Laudio, descended by administrative way.[3] The Erandio after 20 years, the season 2014-2015 competed in its centenary in the Group IV of the Third Division.[4][5][6] In that same season after a bad run of results the Erandio Club descended to the División de Honor. At the end of the season, a game of veterans was played commemorative of the club centenary against a veteran team of the Athletic Club. Among which was players like Imanol, Armando, Lakabeg, Casas, Ocio, J. Etxeberria, J. González y Gabilondo.[7][8] On 27 August 2015, the club published a book with the history of 100 years of the club.[9][10] On 7 December 2015, the tv show "El día después" of Canal+ reboradcasted a report of the centenary of the club.[11][12] SymbologyShieldIn the shield of Erandio Club [13] contains in the top-left margin one spherical and in the top-right vertical blue bars and the cross of St. Andrew. In the rest of the shield is covered by blue vertical bars tilted to the right and in the middle contains the initials E and C from Erandio Club. PetsThe Erandio Club pet is Kai,[14] which comes from Basque kaio which means "seagull". Their appearance is of a seagull wearing a beret and wears the main shirt of Erandio Club. UniformThe first kit consists of a blue-striped shirt, blue shorts and blue socks with white trim. As for the away kit has traditionally consisted of a red shirt with blue and white trim with blue shorts and blue socks stockings with white trim. Currently, they wear a red shirt with white piping on the shoulders and neck with red pants and stockings of the same color Anthem¡Aupa Erandio!, Composed in 1965 on the occasion of the Golden Jubilee of the Society Foundations, Pablo Martinez Ibarruri composed the lyrics of the anthem dedicated to the Club. Young TeamsErandio "B"The Erandio "B" is the subsidiary of Erandio Club team. Currently on Vizcaya First Territorial Division, group 1 and play their games in Ategorri. YouthTo promote new players from the quarry, the club has two youth teams federated, each in a different category. The First Youth (Txorierri) currently plays in the Youth First Division of Group 1 and the second juvenile (Ategorri) plays in Youth Second Division Group 4. Cadets and InfantThe club also has available cadet teams and children to promote new players. The junior team currently plays in the second division of cadets of Group 4 and infant child in the second division. NeskakThe Erandio was available from 2002-2007 a women's team and its quarry until finally the first team won promotion to Regional 1st Biscayne in 2006/07.
