The municipality covers an area of {{convert|8.8|km2|sqmi}}, and had a population of 558 (as of 3 July 2006). Semanín lies approximately {{convert|13|km|mi|0}} south of Ústí nad Orlicí, {{convert|52|km|mi|0|abbr=on}} east of Pardubice, and {{convert|148|km|mi|0|abbr=on}} east of Prague. HistoryThe first mention of the village dates back to 1347, when the settlement belonged to the Litomyšl bishop. The name of the Czech village has been documented since the 15th century.
