The two other openings of the fourth ventricle are the lateral apertures (also called the foramina of Luschka), one on the left and one on the right, which drain cerebrospinal fluid into the cerebellopontine angle cistern. The median foramen on axial images is posterior to the pons and anterior to the caudal cerebellum. It is surrounded by the obex and gracile tubercles of the medulla, tela choroidea of the fourth ventricle and its choroid plexus, which is attached to the cerebellar vermis.[1] EponymThe foramen of Magendie is named for François Magendie, who first described it.[2] Additional imagesReferences{{Commons category|Median aperture}}1. ^{{cite journal |author1=Ciolkowski M. |author2=Sharifi M. |author3=Tarka S. |author4=Ciszek B. |title= Median aperture of the fourth ventricle revisited. |journal=Folia Morphol.|year=2011 |issue= 70(2) |pages=84–90|PMID= 21630228}} {{Fourth ventricle}}{{Authority control}}2. ^{{WhoNamedIt|synd|2388}} 1 : Ventricular system |
