On 12 January 2009, the company acquired the business and assets of Blimey! Games.[1][2] In September 2009, Slightly Mad Studios released Shift with Electronic Arts.[3] The company uses a distributed development structure, with developers living across the world and working remotely.[4] Slightly Mad was ranked as the 17th most successful developer in the Develop 100 list for 2010.[5] Slightly Mad Studios' development repertoire is composed solely of various racing games and simulators. In 2017 Slightly Mad Studios released the sequel to its community-based racing simulator Project CARS.[6] This title was developed using community-based development, pre-alpha testing, and funding, in an attempt to bypass normal publishing costs. This was the first title of a series of similarly-developed games, and the process is now known as "World of Mass Development", or WMD. On 2 January 2019, CEO and founder of Slightly Mad Studios, Ian Bell, announced via Twitter that the company would be creating its very own video game console, which will be called Mad Box. Bell described the console to be "the most powerful console ever built", which will be able to run games at native 4K resolution, at up to 120 FPS, and will support most major Virtual Reality headsets at 60 FPS per eye. It's considered that the console should be equivalent to a "very fast PC 2 years from now". The console is planned for release around the next 3 years. In addition to their console, Bell announced that the company will also be shipping its very own game engine for free to developers. The company does not intend to have exclusive titles for their console, but that'd be up to the developers themselves.[7][8][9][10] Games
