It was founded in 1992 and currently features eight teams. The champion of the league qualifies for a spot in the UEFA Women's Champions League. FormatThe teams play each other twice per season, thus every team plays 14 matches. There is no relegation system in place. In the 2010–11 season, a playoff system was adopted. After the regular season, the top four and the bottom four teams play each other once more with the points added to the regular season record.
