{{Infobox_gene}}Suppressor of cytokine signaling 2 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the SOCS2 gene.[1][2][3]This gene encodes a member of the STAT-induced STAT inhibitor (SSI), also known as suppressor of cytokine signalling (SOCS), family. SSI family members are cytokine-inducible negative regulators of cytokine signaling. The expression of this gene can be induced by a subset of cytokines, including erythropoietin, GM-CSF, IL10 and interferon-gamma (IFN-gamma). The protein encoded by this gene is found to interact with the cytoplasmic domain of insulin-like growth factor 1 receptor (IGF1R), and thus is thought to be involved in the regulation of IGF1R mediated cell signaling.[4] Knockout studies in mice also suggested a regulatory role of this gene in IGF-1 related growth control.[3][5] InteractionsSOCS2 has been shown to interact with insulin-like growth factor 1 receptor[4] and erythropoietin receptor.[6] References1. ^{{cite journal |author1=Masuhara M |author2=Sakamoto H |author3=Matsumoto A |author4=Suzuki R |author5=Yasukawa H |author6=Mitsui K |author7=Wakioka T |author8=Tanimura S |author9=Sasaki A |author10=Misawa H |author11=Yokouchi M |author12=Ohtsubo M |author13=Yoshimura A | title = Cloning and characterization of novel CIS family genes | journal = Biochem Biophys Res Commun | volume = 239 | issue = 2 | pages = 439–46 |date=November 1997 | pmid = 9344848 | pmc = | doi = 10.1006/bbrc.1997.7484 }} 2. ^{{cite journal |author1=Minamoto S |author2=Ikegame K |author3=Ueno K |author4=Narazaki M |author5=Naka T |author6=Yamamoto H |author7=Matsumoto T |author8=Saito H |author9=Hosoe S |author10=Kishimoto T | title = Cloning and functional analysis of new members of STAT induced STAT inhibitor (SSI) family: SSI-2 and SSI-3 | journal = Biochem Biophys Res Commun | volume = 237 | issue = 1 | pages = 79–83 |date=September 1997 | pmid = 9266833 | pmc = | doi = 10.1006/bbrc.1997.7080 }} 3. ^1 {{cite web | title = Entrez Gene: SOCS2 suppressor of cytokine signaling 2| url = https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez?Db=gene&Cmd=ShowDetailView&TermToSearch=8835| accessdate = }} 4. ^1 {{cite journal |author1=Dey BR |author2=Spence SL |author3=Nissley P |author4=Furlanetto RW | title = Interaction of human suppressor of cytokine signaling (SOCS)-2 with the insulin-like growth factor-I receptor | journal = J.
