It was one of the earliest video games of the Warhammer 40,000 series. ReleaseGremlin Graphics Software Ltd. released the video game version of Space Crusade in early 1992. It was available on Atari ST, IBM PC (MS-DOS), Amiga, ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64 and Amstrad and later received an expansion, The Voyage Beyond. GameplaySpace Crusade is considered a faithful conversion of the original boardgame, with a digital board that could be viewed from both a 2D and isometric view.[1]ReceptionSpace Crusade was praised for being "a faithful conversion of the boardgame."[2][3] The ZX Spectrum version was voted number 24 in the Your Sinclair Readers' Top 100 Games of All Time.[4]CU Amiga called Space Crusade "a classic strategy game".[5] Amiga Computing called Space Crusade "one hell of a game".[6] The reviewer from Amiga Action stated "I have absolutely no reservations in recommending this game to everyone, especially commanders with prior experience in the Adeptus Astartes".[7] The reviewer form The One for Amiga Games stated that the game's pros "more than outweigh the cons and make Space Crusade a very worthwhile product, especially with the prospect of plenty of data disks to liven things up".[8] The reviewer form The One for Amiga Games stated that "Space Crusade retains much of the original feel of the board game, but the computer format adds some great touches you'd be hard pressed to imitate physically, short of tipping lighter fluid over the board characters and lighting them as they get blown away".[9] Amiga Format called Space Crusade "fun, not fast-paced joystick-bashing fun, but you’re your thoughtful, war-gamey, tactical move-type, with some mindless blasting thrown in".[10] The reviewer from Amiga Mania stated that Space Crusade has "a lot of nice effects, touches and tweaks which a great game needs to lift itself above its competitors".[11]References1. ^{{cite journal | first = Linda | last = Barker | date = March 1992 | title = Space Crusade | journal = Your Sinclair | issue = 75 | url = http://www.ysrnry.co.uk/articles/spacecrusade.htm | deadurl = yes | archiveurl = https://web.archive.org/web/20060105042418/http://www.ysrnry.co.uk/articles/spacecrusade.htm | archivedate = 2006-01-05 | df = }} {{Games Workshop}}{{Warhammer 40,000}}2. ^{{cite news|title=Complex war game develops cult following|last=Eley|first=Peter|date=February 18, 1999|work=The New Zealand Herald}} 3. ^{{cite news|title=THE GAME ZONE: 'Rites of War' falls short despite good pedigree|date=September 19, 1999 |work=The Atlanta Journal-Constitution|pages=5}} 4. ^{{cite journal|title=Readers' Top 100 Games of All Time|journal=Your Sinclair|date=September 1993}} 5. ^CU Amiga (May 1992) 6. ^Amiga Computing 50 7. ^Amiga Action 29 8. ^The One for Amiga Games 43 9. ^Amiga Power 12 10. ^Amiga Format 34 11. ^Amiga Mania (June 1992) 12 : 1992 video games|Amiga games|Amstrad CPC games|Atari ST games|Commodore 64 games|DOS games|Gremlin Interactive games|Video games based on board games|Video games developed in the United Kingdom|Video games scored by Barry Leitch|Warhammer 40,000 video games|ZX Spectrum games |
