A sports activity coupé (SAC) is an automotive body-style consisting of a traditional sedan or gran turismo body placed on top of the platform of a sport-utility vehicle.[1] HistoryThe BMW X6, introduced in 2008, is widely considered to be the first sports activity coupé. Based on the BMW X5, the X6 was essentially a sedan on stilts, riding on the X5's platform. The vehicle's polarizing styling generated some controversy early on, but the body style proved to be popular with tens of thousands being sold annually.[2] SACs are becoming an increasingly popular body type, especially in markets with a booming SUV industry. Many customers buy SACs wanting an increased ride-height, off-roadability, and on-road performance when compared to traditional sedans and SUVs.
