Rule, a Victorian interstate representative in 1949, was used as both a follower and defender at Melbourne.[2] In their 1948 premiership team he was the former, while in 1946 he played from the back pocket in a losing Grand Final. He went to Wodonga in 1951, as captain-coach.[3] References1. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.afl.com.au/staticfile/AFL%20Tenant/AFL/Files/afl_annual_report_2007.pdf|title=AFL Annual Report 2007|publisher=Australian Football League|accessdate=9 September 2014}} 2. ^{{cite book|last1=Holmesby|first1=Russell|last2=Main|first2=Jim|title=The Encyclopedia Of AFL Footballers| publisher=BAS Publishing|year=2007|isbn=9781920910785}} 3. ^{{cite news |url=http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article23041531 |title=Melbourne clear Stan Rule. |newspaper=The Argus |location=Melbourne |date=24 January 1951 |accessdate=26 March 2014 |page=11 |via=National Library of Australia}} External links{{Commons category}}
