HistorySt. John the Baptist parish was founded in 1871 and is the oldest Portuguese parish in America and the 2nd oldest Catholic parish in New Bedford. The Parish was closed November 2012. BuildingThe first church, dedicated in 1875, was later destroyed by fire.
