释义 |
Sutra copying is the East Asian practice of hand-copying Buddhist sutras. GeneralSutra copying is considered a merit in Buddhism.[1][2] Other meritorious practices included the memorization and recitation of sutras.[2] The effort of sutra copying is considered an expression of piety,[1] and recognized as a devotional practice, since it comprises worship, literature, and calligraphy.[5] Since early in history, it was also not uncommon for people to sponsor monks and nuns to recite or copy sutras, thus indirectly cultivating merit in one's ancestors, family, and self by transference.[2] HistoryThe practice of sutra copying originated in China.[5] Sutra copying was imported to Korea in the third century.[3] During the Nara period (710–794) in Japan, the practice of sutra copying became very popular in society.[4] References1. ^1 {{cite book|last=Atkinson|first=Alan G.|title=Latter days of the law: images of Chinese Buddhism, 850-1850|year=1994|publisher=Spencer Museum of Art, University of Kansas|location=Lawrence, Kansas|isbn=9780824816629|pages=294|chapter=Catalogue, with introduction to Buddhism and Buddhist subjects in Chinese art}} {{Authority control}}2. ^1 2 {{cite book|last1=Levering|first1=Miriam|title=Rethinking scripture: Essays from a comparative perspective|date=1989|publisher=State University of New York Press|location=Albany|isbn=9780887066139|pages=73–74|chapter=Scripture and its Reception: A Buddhist Case}} 3. ^1 2 {{cite book|last=Stevens|first=John|title=Sacred calligraphy of the East|year=1981|publisher=Shambhala|location=Boulder, Colo., London|isbn=9780394748320|pages=101–102}} 4. ^{{cite book|last=Sansom|first=G.B.|title=Japan: A Short Cultural History|year=1978|publisher=Stanford University Press|location=Stanford, California|isbn=0804709548|page=141}} 3 : Buddhism in China|Buddhism in Japan|Buddhism in Korea |
